“Margaritaville” Singer Jimmy Buffet, aged 76, passed away on Friday, September 1st, 2023.

A statement from his family was posted on Buffet’s X (formerly known as Twitter) homepage.

It read:

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.

Jimmy Buffet was born on December 25th, 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, USA. Beginning his music career in the legendary city of Nashville, Tennessee, during the late 1960’s. A household name with 2 GRAMMY nominations under his belt, Jimmy Buffet was involved in many aspects of life; from writing books, music, flying his aircraft and sailing his boats and even owning restaurants. In 2023, a new species of crustaceans were discovered, native to the Florida Keys. It was named the Gnathia jimmybuffetti.
