Important: Idalia is not projected to hit Nova Scotia currently.

Hurricane Idalia, which was a category 3 hurricane only yesterday and is now considered a tropical storm, has struck the coast of North Carolina.

Idalia made landfall in Florida Wednesday morning and brought heavy winds and rains to the southern state. A category 3 hurricane is defined as a storm with winds between 178-207 KMPH.

After leaving well over 100,000 without power in Florida, Idalia hopped state lines and began flooding parts of Georgia, South and North Carolina, knocking out power and leaving residents without access to cooling methods while summertime heat begins to skyrocket again.

Storm surge in Florida reached almost 9 feet and is said to be the strongest storm to hit this part of Florida (Cedar Key) in over 100 years, setting high water records near Tampa Bay.

United States President Joe Biden has declared a major disaster in Florida, and as of last night, it is said around 40 rescue attempts in the state have been successful, with 29 being made by the Florida National Guard.

Idalia has now been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and is projected to continue it’s path further into the Atlantic Ocean, heading East towards Bermuda, although it has been tricky for meteorologists to fully pin down the path.
