This Saturday, December 6th, a new clinical information system "One Person One Record" will go live at IWK Health.
"The system is "One person One Record is an important step to transform how our healthcare system communicates, shares information and delivers better care to Nova Scotians," said Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness.
The system will allow healthcare workers to collect, store and share health information in a secure manner, and is designed with better ease of access and with the goal of replacing or connect the current system that workers use to access patient information.
Offering real-time patient information from ambulatory care, emergency visits, mental health and addiction services, and inpatient care, the main goal of the system is to replace duplication and keep everything in one secure location with as much information as possible.
The system is the first of its kind to connect information from Nova Scotia Health and IWK sites and will help over 26,000 healthcare professionals in the province once fully implemented by 2026. On Saturday, the system goes live at IWK Health.
"Implementing One Person One Record at IWK is a significant step toward delivering safer, more connected care for patients and families." Scott McKenne says, the Chief Information Officer of Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health.
"It's part of the transformation of how we deliver healthcare. This system ensures that providers and teams have the information they need, all in one location, so they can provide the best possible patient care."
The Province of Nova Scotia signed a 10-year, $365-million contract with Oracle Health Canada in 2023 to handle the designing, development and implementation of One Person One Record.
