Organizations that support crime prevention initiatives and victims of crime are now eligible for one-time funding through a new provincial program.
The Civil Forfeiture Grant Program is funded with cash and assets from unlawful activities seized by law enforcement and forfeited to the Province.
“Crime affects us all. It undermines our safety and our sense of security,” said Brad Johns, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. “We want to ensure that property seized from criminals can be redirected to make a positive difference in our communities and prevent it from being used to commit further crimes.”
Funding is now available to community based not-for-profits including Indigenous organizations, African Nova Scotian organizations and others supporting marginalized communities. Local governments, law enforcement agencies and academic institutions are also eligible to apply.
Quick Facts:
- grant applicants must have their proposed project reviewed by their local police governance board
- up to $50,000 is available per project
- individuals are not eligible to apply
