Communities throughout the province are invited to join in a week-long celebration of human rights during Nova Scotia Human Rights Week, December 3-10.
Presented by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission in partnership with community-based organizations and government, the week’s events highlight the foundational role human rights play in protecting each person’s right to live free from discrimination.
“The human rights commission is part of a larger human rights framework in Nova Scotia that includes individuals and organizations committed to protecting one another’s inherent dignity,” said Joseph Fraser, Director and CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. “By showcasing the many ways human rights show up in our communities every day, we are demonstrating our collective commitment to creating a stronger, more inclusive province.”
Event highlights include:
- a free online screening of the film True North, a documentary about the history of systemic racism in Canada, in partnership with the Atlantic International Film Festival
- virtual presentations and panel discussions on anti-ableism, food sovereignty, trans rights, addressing gender-based violence and youth creating safer communities
- the 2025 Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards ceremony at the Halifax Central Library on December 10; the ceremony will also be livestreamed
