Ian MacPhee was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, but grew up in Truro from the age of 2. He fell in love with radio at an early age, listening to CKCL in Truro with morning man Frank MacDonald and Salesman Harry Dewer fighting over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians. Even back then, Ian was the first on mike with the Hi-Y Big Beach show on CKCL. He moved on to CJCH in November of 1969 hosting various shows. Then, he worked on the rock at CJON with Merv Russell in Newfoundland for a short time. Then in 1970, Ian went over to CKDH in Amherst where he hosted the morning show for over 18 years and raised his family of four.

In 1988 Ian joined CHNS till 1990, and then launched SUN-FM on August 30th of 1990 where he met his pal Paul Marr. Ian said, “At present I enjoy Music Unlimited with 105.9 SEASIDE-FM. I haven’t felt like this about radio for a LONG time! It’s such a pleasure to play this kind of music for our listeners who are so appreciative. Thanks go out to Wayne Harrett, our GM for this opportunity.”
